In OS X Yosemite, Apple has put the operating system’s long-existing Spotlight search feature front and center. The search user interface that was previous focused on the top right of the desktop is now located at the center of the user interface.

The search functionality is now enhanced to include access to news and maps as well as the ability to perform conversions and advanced math equations. The new enhancements mirror much of the functionality offered by add-on software like Alfred and Quicksilver.
